Petronas Carigali needed to recoat their internal vessels but the shutdown time was only for a few days. This meant that an epoxy based coating was out of the question due to the long drying time needed. The decision was made to use Nukote Polyurea ST due to its fast curing time and superior physical qualities. The absence of VOCs was also a factor due to the nature of the project which involved working in confined space.
The vessels were abrasive blasted to SA 2.5 as standard procedure resulting in a profile of 50-80 microns then coated with Polyurea ST to a thickness of 1mm.
After coating completion, the vessels were inspected and due to the fast curing nature of Nukote polyurea was able to be boxed up after 3 hours. Within 4 hours of work completion the vessels were back to service with minimum downtime.
